Pundalik Naik delivers captain’s punch as Goa stun Saurashtra in Vinoo Mankad Trophy; U-19 girls suffer another hammering

Goa U-19 boys stunned Saurashtra by three wickets in Vinoo Mankad Trophy to record their second successive victory. The state girls team, however, suffered another hammering this time from Karnataka, who registered a 247-run (VJD) win in the BCCI women U-19 one-dayers tournament in Assam.

In Puducherry, Goa boys won the toss and elected to field. Backed by a solid performance in the field, Goa bowled out Saurashtra for a paltry 122 runs in 32.2 overs. Swapnil Gaonkar (4/33) and Yash Kasvankar (3/14) returned impressive figures with the ball. Pundalik Naik, Yuvraj Singh and Shivank Desai took one wicket each.

Goa were guilty of losing wickets in a heap after getting off to a relatively sound start. From 28/1, Goa were reduced to 56/6, and it took a counter-attacking unbeaten knock of 46 off 39 balls from Pundalik to take Goa to victory. The captain struck three sixers and two boundaries to finish off in style as Goa reached 127/7 in 35.3 overs.

Shantanu Nevagi contributed 26 runs at the top of the order. Dishank Misquin (22) and Malhar Naik (11) were the other batters to get double digit scores.

Meanwhile in Assam, Goa U-19 girls failed to improve from their previous outing and again gave away 51 runs in Extras as Karnataka piled 311/4 in 47 overs. Goa were dismissed for 68 in 33.4 overs.
