Goa U-19 boys opened their Vinoo Mankad Trophy campaign with a 124-run victory over Arunachal Pradesh in Puducherry on Thursday. However, the U-19 girls team suffered a heavy defeat by 241 runs from Gujarat in their one-dayers tournament, in Assam.
Batting first, the boys posted 258/5 in the allotted 50 overs. Shantanu Nevagi top-scored with 61 runs off 69 balls (5×4, 2×6). Decent contributions from Malhar Naik (52), Dishank Misquin (42) and Yash Kasvankar (38) helped Goa post a competitive total.
In reply, Arunachal were bowled out for 134 runs in 44.1 overs. Yuvraj Singh was the wrecker in chief with a return of 4/32. Swapnil Gaonkar and Shivank Desai picked up two wickets each.
Over in Assam, Goa U-19 girls were hammered by Gujarat in a lop-sided encounter at Amingaon Cricket Ground. Goa’s first two matches were abandoned due to bad weather in Guwahati.
Gujarat scored a mammoth 312/9 in their allotted 50 overs with Goa being guilty of giving away an embarrassing tally of 52 extras with 43 of them being wide balls. In the chase, Goa were shot out for 71 runs in 28.1 overs.
