Panaji: Padmashree Panthers beat Suncity Challengers by 5 runs in the final of the Electricity Premier League tennis ball cricket tournament at SAG ground, Campal, here.
Batting first, Padmashree Panthers scored 52 runs off the allotted five overs. Vishant Pagi made 23 runs while Sidhu Desai contributed 22 runs. Dilvesh Desai of Suncity took one wicket.
In reply, Suncity gave Padmashree Panthers a real scare as the Challengers ended up just five runs short at 47/4 in five overs. Rupesh Gaonkar top-scored with 26 runs while Dinesh Gaonkar made 15 runs. For the Panthers, Suryakant Naik, Dinesh Gaonkar and Mahendra Velip took a wicket each.
The winners took home Rs 50,000 while the runners-up received Rs 30,000 apart from the trophies. The losing semi-finalists Prabhu Power Hitters and Galaxy Super Giants received Rs 15,000 each and trophies.
Following individual prizes were awarded: Man of the final: Sidhu Desai (Padmashree). Man of the tournament: Rupesh Gaonkar (Suncity). Best Bowler: Suryakant Gaonkar (Padmashree). Best batsman: Vishant Pagi (Padmashree). Best fielder: Shivram Kamat (Galaxy).
Stefen Fernandes, Chief Electrical Engineer, Arun Patil, Executive Engineer, and Amrut Pednekar, Assistant Engineer, graced the occasion and gave away the prizes.
