Porvorim: Chowgule Sports Club beat Manas Panjim Gymkhana by 92 runs to clinch the Goa Cricket Association’s Goa Premier League title at GCA Academy ground here on Wednesday.
Chowgule captain Darshan Misal and Baroda off-spinner Mahesh Pithiya took 4 wickets each on the treacherous third and final day pitch to bowl out Manas Panjim Gymkhana for 126 runs.
Manas Panjim Gymkhana, who were chasing the target of 219 runs, lost early wickets with pacer Shubham Tari and Samarth Rane sending back Manthan Khutkar and Kashyap Bakhale. With the score reading a sorry 9/3, Yogesh Kauthankar (28) and Sumit Mathur (41) steadied the ship with a watchful batting display. The 4th-wicket stand of 75 runs kept Manas Panjim Gymkhana in the contest as both the batters played with increasing confidence before the wearing pitch showed its nasty streak immediately after the Tea break; with Yogesh failing to tackle Pithiya’s delivery, which bounced more than usual, and looped up off the glove for Darshan in short gully, to take a simple catch.
And as it happens on a deteriorating final day pitch, new batters found it tough to get their eye in and Manas Panjim Gymkhana lost wickets in quick succession, leaving Tanay Thyagarajan stranded on an unbeaten 22.
Brief Scores: Chowgule SC 166 & 180, Manas Panjim Gymkhana 128 & 126.
