Goa scored a nail-biting 1-wicket victory over Mumbai in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy in Vadodara. It was also their third consecutive win in the tournament. Goa next play Andhra in the top of the table clash on Tuesday.
Mumbai elected to bat first and were restricted to 111/9 as Goa logged in a fabulous bowling performance. Sunanda Yetrekar (2/12) and Priti Yadav (2/17) bowled superbly to keep the Mumbai top and middle order batters in control. Shikha Pandey and Poorva Bhaidkar picked up one wicket each.
In reply, Goa worked hard to get over the line as wickets tumbled in a heap. It came down to mental strength of Tejashwini Duragad, who batted with the tail and snatched the victory from jaws of defeat with an unbeaten finisher’s knock of 33 runs off 35 balls, which included five boundaries.
Other notable contribution with the bat came from No 3 batter Purvaja Verlekar (32 off 19 balls; 4×5, 6×1) and captain Sanjula Naik (16).
Goa are placed at the top of Group A with 12 points, same as Andhra, who are second due to lesser NRR. Top teams from all five groups plus three best second-placed sides will progress to the Quarter-finals stage.
