Senior Women’s T20 Trophy: Odisha outplay Goa, second successive loss for Goans

Goa suffered a collective team failure for the first time in the ongoing Senior Women’s T20 Trophy in Vadodara on Thursday as they were outplayed by Odisha by 10 wickets. It was an uncharacteristic outing for the Goans in the context, having won the first three matches and lost the last match to Andhra narrowly by just 3 runs.

Put into bat, Goa were restricted to a total of 110/7. As has been the story of their batting display so far, the major contributions came from Tarannum Pathan (37 not out), captain Sanjula Naik (24) and Purvaja Verlekar (22).

Odisha openers Sarita Meher (59 not out) and captain Madhuri Meheta (49 not out) then ensured that their team cruised to victory without loss of a wicket as they put on an unfinished stand of 111 runs in 16.3 overs.

Goa, who are placed third in Group A, will have to win both the remaining matches (vs Tamil Nadu on 26th October, vs Gujarat on 28th October) to strengthen their chances of qualifying for the knock-out phase.
