Saibaba SC 16th All-Goa T20: Bicholim CC & Nageshi Youth move into semi-finals

AMONA: Contrasting victories for Bicholim Cricket Club and Nageshi Youth brought the exciting quarter-finals stage to a conclusion as Saibaba SC 16th All-Goa Panchayat and Municipality T20 tournament now heads into the much-anticipated semi-finals stage.

It was a fascinating day today at the Uzzate ground as the last two quarter-finals produced two different types of contests.

In the first encounter of the day, Bicholim Cricket Club delivered a fine batting display in the chase of Eagle Sports Club’s challenging total of 167/5.

Contributions by Krishna Volvoikar with 68 runs off 43 balls (6×6, 4×5), and Navin Usapkar with 54 off 39 balls (6×3, 4×6); were at the core of Eagle’s total. For Bicholim, Shubham Desai continued his fine form with the ball, taking 3/23.

In reply, Umang Gosavi thrashed the rival bowlers in his 31-ball knock of 68 not out with the help of five sixes and six boundaries. Rushikesh Pednekar scored 51 runs from 41 balls, which included 2 sixes and six boundaries. Bicholim passed the winning target comfortably reaching 172/4 in 16.4 overs as Umang smacked a maximum and was named Man of the Match. Kundan Gawas presented the award.

The second match of the day was a low-scoring thriller where Nageshi Youth won by just 2 runs against Cricket Club of Cumbharjua.

Batting first, Nageshi Youth had to work hard with Akshay Naik’s 35 runs (30 balls; 4×5) being the highest individual score in their innings. Valuable runs by Mukund Bandodkar (21) and Babulal Pathan (17) helped Nageshi Youth to post a fighting total of 131/9.

Cumbharjua’s Tushar Narvekar, Narendra Tari and Rajat Shet took 3, 2 and 2 wickets respectively.

Cricket Club of Cumbharjua’s Rajat Shet was once again, the main pillar of strength with the bat. However, this time, he fell short of powering his side to victory with his knock of 47-ball 67 (6×2, 4×8). Tushar Narvekar was the next highest scorer for Cumbharjua with 19 runs to his name.

Nageshi Youth’s Babulal Pathan and Sapresh Mulvi took 2 wickets each. Pathan was named Man of the Match. Gokuldas Sawant presented the award.
