Mapusa: Public Works Dept crushed Social Welfare Department by 96 runs and entered the quarter-finals of State Civil Services Tournament, at Peddem ground.
Electing to bat first, Public Works Department put up a huge total of 201/4 in their allotted 18 overs. Vikas Desai hit his second consecutive half-century, top-scoring with 59 runs.
PWD were also aided by the batting from Sudhakar Kholkar (37), Naresh Parsekar (36), ex-Goa Ranji Trophy cricketer Sahil Dhuri (27 not out) and Siddesh Naik (20). Vishnu 2-34, Vipul 1-36 and Deepak 1-39 were the successful bowlers for the Social Welfare Dept.
In reply, Social Welfare Dept could only muster 105/9 in their allotted 18 overs with contributions from Deepraj (21), Vishnu (21) and Aditya (17). For the PWD, the trio of Naresh Parsekar, Mayur Naik and Shailesh Naik picked 3 wickets each to skittle the opposition, giving a 96 runs victory to the Public Works Dept.
Naresh Parsekar and Vikas Desai were jointly adjudged the Player of the Match. Public Works Dept will play the Quarter on 25th March at the Peddem Sports Complex.
