SHIRODA: PWD emerged the champions of WRD Champions Trophy leather ball cricket tournament as they beat Electricity Department by 27 runs in the final at Karai ground-Shiroda.
Batting first, PWD posted a challenging total of 177/8 with Niraj Lotlekar being the top-scorer with 48 runs. Chetan Naik contributed 29 runs. In reply, Electricity Department were all out for 150 runs with Krishnakant Majik (82) doing the bulk of the scoring. Siddhesh Naik was the pick of the PWD bowlers, picking 5/20.
WRD Minister Subhash Shirodkar was the chief guest and gave away the prizes. Siddhesh Naik (PWD) was named man of the match. Following other prizes were awarded: Best batsman – Abhishek Khotambikar (Directorate of Accounts), Best bowler – Datta Naik (Electricity department), Man of the tournament – Sagar Parsekar (WRD).
