Margao: Margao Cricket Club (MCC) beat a fighting Chowgule SC by 10 runs in the final to lift the Karapurkar Trophy at the SAG ground, Fatorda here today.
MCC won the toss and elected to bat first. Yash Kaswankar was the top-scorer with 48 runs to his credit, while Rishikesh Ugale contributed 36 runs. MCC posted a challenging total of 161 for 6 in 20 overs. Chowgule’s Shubham Desai took 2 wickets.
In reply, Chowgule lost Rajat Shet early but Shubham Gajinkar (60) tried to hold the innings together with strokes all around the ground. Till the time he was at the crease, it looked like Chowgule would win.
However the fall of Shubham, turned the tables and MCC picked up Chowgule wickets regularly till Saiesh Kamat and Rohit Naik brought them back into the game. A brilliant catch by Saif Ali who ran nearly 30 yards to take Rohit’s catch, put an end to the Chowgule fight. Saiesh Kamat was out soon after and Chowgule were all out for 151 runs in 19.5 overs.
GCA President Vipul Phadke was the chief guest for the prize distribution ceremony. Joint-secretary Rupesh Naik; Chirag Naik, Director of Commonwealth Developers (the Sponsors of this tournament), organiser Hemant Angle and Gurudas Kudalkar from Zaino Sports and Welfare Club, Velim, were also present.
