V.M. Salgaocar College of Law and Shree Damodar College moved into the quarter-finals of the Inter-Collegiate Cricket Championship 2022-23 organised by Goa University.
V.M. Salgaocar College of Law beat Shree Mallikarjun College, Canacona, by 5 wickets.
VM Salgaocar won the toss and put Shree Mallikarjun College into bat, restricting them to 126/7 in 20 overs. Mallikarjun Masttar scored 35 runs (37 balls), while Vishal Bhandari made 23 off 22 balls. Among the VMS bowlers, Vaibhav Bandekar took 2-24, while Abhishek Dhawaskar picked up 1-16.
In the chase, V.M. Salgaocar Law college romped home 127/5 in 16 overs. Satyam Ghogale with 38 runs (31) and Vishwesh Govekar with 28 runs (21), were the major contributors. Prem Gosavi (2-28) and Vishal Bhandri (1-18) were amongst the wickets for Mallikarjun college.
In the second match of the day, Shree Damodar College edged out DM’S College, Assagao, in a Super Over thriller.
Shree Damodar College elected to bat and posted 148/6 in 20 overs. Goa state cricketers Ayush Verlekar with 33 runs (34) and Deep Kesvankar with 32 not out (25), played vital knocks for their side. DM’S bowler Rahul Gosavi (4-19) was the chief wicket-taker, while Krishna Naik took 1-15.
DM’S College ended up with an identical total of 148/8 in 20 overs with Goa state cricketer Soham Panvalkar top-scoring with 57 off 41 balls. Anuresh Kambli made 24 runs off 21 balls. Krishnauni K.R. (3-23), and Shubham Leejinkar (3-25) were the wreckers in chief for Damodar’s.
In the Super Over, D.M’S College were 5/1 with Soham Panvalkar scoring 4 of 4 as Krishnauni K.R. (0-4) bowled economically. Shree Damodar College reached the target 6/1 as Kaushal Hattangedi hit a 4 off one ball he faced, while Ayush Verlekar scored 2 off 3. Krishna Naik (1-6) was the bowler for D.M’S.
Meanwhile, the quarter-final action will begin on Saturday as P.G Goa University take on S.S. Dempo, Cujira, at 9:00 a.m. That will be followed by Quarter-Final 2, which will pit Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda, against S. Caculo College, Mapusa, at 2:00 p.m.
