Inter-College Cricket: SS Dempo College & Govt. College-Khandola enter final

SS Dempo College and Government College Khandola have entered the final of Inter-Collegiate Cricket Championship 2022-23 organised by Goa University. In the semi-finals today, Dempo College defeated S. Caculo in Super Over; while Govt. College Khandola defeated holders Shree Damodar College by 5 wickets.

S.S. Dempo won the toss and elected to bat. A fine half-century by Anand Tendulkar, who blazed an unbeaten 63 runs off 32 balls powered Dempos to a challenging 167/5 in the allotted 20 overs. Prashant Patil with 27 runs, was the other notable contributor with the bat. Caculo’s Sainath Pednekar and Rudraksh Sangodkar took one wicket each.

S. Caculo College were tied with Dempos after reaching 167/4 in 20 overs. Two strong knocks, Kaushal Churi with 61 off 44 balls, and Monu Mistny 45 runs off 29 balls, were the highlight of their innings. Dempo’s Sagar Vantamuri and Anand Tendulkar grabbed a wicket each.

In the ensuing Super Over, S. Caculo College could muster 6/1 as Roshan Chawan scored 6 off 3 balls. S.S. Dempo College emerged victors at 8/0 as Sagar Vantamuri struck 8 not out off two balls.

In the second semi-final, Shree Damodar College’s 145/6 was not challenging enough as Govt. College Khandola reached the target 146/5 in 18.2 overs.

Ayush Verlekar (72 off 48 balls) and Sanath Nevagi with 23 runs were the chief run-getters for Damodar’s. Prathamesh Sawant (2-33) and Smitesh Sawant (1-23) were amongst wickets for Khandola College.

Govt. College-Khandola’s Rishab Phadte Gaonkar with 38 runs off 29 balls, was the top scorer. An unbeaten quickfire 35 off 16 balls by Prathamesh Kunkalkar, guided the team home. Damodar’s Mithil Karekar (4-19) was the chief wicket-taker, while Kaushal Hattangadi took one wicket.

The final will be played between S.S. Dempo College, Cujira and Govt. College, Khandola at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday (April 6).
