Goa beat Jammu & Kashmir by eight wickets in their opening match of Senior Women’s T20 Trophy in Vadodara on Thursday. An all-round performance by Tarannum Pathan (3/16 & 20 not out) was at the heart of Goa’s comprehensive victory.
Having elected to bat first, J&K were all out for 83 runs in 19.4 overs. Tarannum was the pick of the bowlers with her four overs strangling the rivals as she took the wickets of three of the top four batters. Poorva Bhaidkar claimed two wickets, while Sunanda Yetrekar took one wicket.
Rudrakshi Chib (24), Bismah Hassan (20 not out) and captain Jasia Akhtar (19) were the main run-getters for the J&K outfit.
In reply, Goa lost both their openers at the total of 27 as captain Sanjula Naik (17) and Shreya Parab (6) departed. Purvaja Verlekar (36 not out off 35 balls; 4×5, 6×1) and Tarannum then put up an unfinished 59-run stand for the third wicket to take their team beyond the victory target to 86/2 in 14.4 overs.
Goa, who will take on minnows Mizoram on Friday, will certainly take a lot of confidence into their next match and look to consolidate their start in this prestigious BCCI tournament for senior women.
