Margao: Dempo Cricket Club scored a 7-wicket victory over MCC in the final of 3rd Chandrakant Karapurkar Trophy T20 tournament organised by Sportsweek and Margao Cricket Academy, at the floodlit MCC ground here on Sunday night. The tournament was supported by Commonwealth Developers in a Chirag Datta Naik initiative.
Put into bat, MCC struggled to even go past the three-figure mark and the defending champions managed 95/9 on what proved to be a difficult surface to bat on. Their highest partnership was worth 33 runs and that came about for the 9th wicket, between Heramb Parab (21 not out off 38 balls) and Sazu Naik (20 off 14 balls).
Yogesh Kautjankar (3/11), Craig Dourado (2/21), Avinash Gawas (1/14), Ramnath Gaonkar (1/8) and Avishkar Mone (1/24) were the wicket-takers for Dempo CC.
With 96 runs being the target, Dempo looked in control from the start. Opener Avinash Gawas led the charge and seized the initiative with his fearless shot-making. He top-scored with 34 off 36 balls, which included 4 boundaries and a six. Prathamesh Gawas (19), Yogesh Kauthankar (14 not out), Abhinav Tej Rana (11) and Avishkar Mone (10 not out) were the other batters, who got in and made some runs to collectively lead their team to triumph. MCC’s Samit Aryan Mishra, Heramb Parab and Aditya Angle picked up one wicket each.
Yogesh Kauthankar was named the player of the final and player of the tournament. Craig Dourado walked away with the prize for best bowler while Stamina CC batter Nishant Nagarkar was named best batter.
