Mashem: Al Fatah beat Mashem Cricket Club by four wickets and entered the semi-finals of 43rd Nanda Lolayekar Trophy leather-ball cricket tournament sponsored by Commonwealth Developers, at Nirakar Maidan-Mashem on Wednesday.
In a low-scoring quarterfinals clash, Yeshwant Raikar delivered an all-round show with his return of 4/40 with the ball and 18 runs off 14 balls with the bat to earn the Man of the Match prize.
Mashem won the toss and batted first. However, they failed to put up a substantial total as the hosts were all out for a modest 121 in 30 overs. Vinesh Satarkar with 36 runs, was the top-scorer. Santosh Satarkar (19) and Vaishak Pagi (18) chipped in with the bat.
Apart from Yeshwant; Munaf Karol (3/14), Vinod Wilson, Badal Singh and Avanish Pal worked well in tandem for the Al Fatah bowling department.
In reply, Al Fatah made heavy weather of the chase as most batters perished after getting off to a start. Opener Rohit Khutkar (33) was the top-scorer.
It was Yeshwant late down the order, who made an impact with his cameo as the 31-run partnership with Vinod Wilson (19) for the fifth wicket ensured Al Fatah does not stray from the road to victory. Al Fatah reached the target 122/6 in 25.5 overs.
Piyush Devidas, Santosh Satarkar and Tushar Sawant picked up two wickets each for Mashem CC.
Pandhari Satarkar was the chief guest for the presentation ceremony and gave away the Man of the Match Trophy to Yeshwant Raikar of Al Fatah.
