Panaji: Taleigao Tigers and Madanant Sports Club won their respective first-round matches in the ongoing Betim United Trophy 2023 here on Saturday.
Taleigao Tigers scored an emphatic 7-wicket victory over Shantadurga Betim while Madanant Sports Club eased past Paliem Sridona Panchayat by 10 wickets.
Paliem Sridona Panchayat batted first and were shot out for 74 runs in 12.4 overs. Yuvraj Palkar remained not out with 22 runs to his name while two Madanant Sports Club bowlers dominated the proceedings with Man-of-the match Diptesh Palkar (5/26) and Ravikant Naik (5/16) sharing the wickets.
Madanant Sports Club made short work of the run-chase as they raced to 76/0 in just 3.2 overs. Shubham Naik hammered an unbeaten 55 off 14 balls (4×4, 6×6) while Kishor K. remained not out on 19 runs off six balls.
In the other match, Taleigao Tigers chased down Shantadurga Betim’s modest total of 118, in just 10 overs as they rode on Rohit Patekar’s 27-ball 50 (6×4, 3×6) and Saif Ali’s 31 off 15 balls, to romp home at 122/3 in a dominant manner. Earlier, the Shantadurga Betim innings came to an end in 19.1 overs with Gauresh Khandeparkar being the pick of the bowlers for the Tigers with figures of 3/18 that also won him the Man-of-the match prize. Tek Bahadur, Madar Basappa and Manish Kakode took two wickets each.
