Panaji: Pilerne Cricket Club and Nageshi Youth won their respective quarter-finals in contrasting styles, at the ongoing Betim United Trophy 2023 T20 cricket tournament here on Saturday.
While in a one-sided affair, Pilerne Cricket Club thrashed Shaurya XI Pirna by 107 runs; the match between Nageshi Youth and Veling Cricketers was a close contest with the Nageshi side scoring a 5-run win.
Nageshi Youth posted a challenging total of 171/8 with man of the match Vishwajeet Phadte Gaonkar top-scoring with 51 runs off 37 balls (5×4, 1×6). Veling’s Felix Dias and Venkatesh Prabhugaonkar took three wickets each.
In reply, Veling Cricketers fought hard and reached up to 166/6 with Sapnish Satarkar (32) and Sanket Morajkar (31) keeping their team in the hunt.
In the other match, Pilerne Cricket Club scored a tournament record total of 239/6 riding on the attacking display of Pramod Naik as he went hammer and tongs after the Shaurya XI Pirna bowlers, on his way to scoring 90 runs off 42 balls, which included 8 fours and 7 sixes. He was named man of the match.
In reply, Shaurya XI Pirna were restricted to 132/7. Rohit Parab remained not out on 53 runs. Pilerne’s Vipul Nagvekar and Viraj Malik took 3 and 2 wickets respectively.
