Goa took a 15-run lead over Gujarat at the end of the second day of their Dr (Capt) K. Thimmappiah Memorial Cricket Tournament match. In reply to Gujarat’s first-innings total of 249, Goa reached 264 for six wickets in 79 overs. Lalit Yadav was unbeaten on 45, while wicketkeeper Piyush Yadav was unbeaten on 17 at stumps.
Goa, however, did not get off to the desired start. Openers Suyash Prabhudesai and Manthan Khutkar were dismissed for 14 and 12 runs respectively. Captain Abhinav Tejrana and Deepraj Gaonkar then steadied the innings with an important 134-run partnership for the third wicket.
Tejrana played a patient knock of 80 off 138 balls, which included 11 fours, while Deepraj scored 54 off 104 deliveries with six fours and a six.
After both batsmen were dismissed in quick succession, Goa came under some pressure. Yash Kasvankar contributed 12 runs, while Darshan Misal added 13. However, Lalit Yadav and Piyush Yadav put together an unbeaten 29-run partnership for the seventh wicket to help Goa take the lead.
For Gujarat, Rinkesh Vaghela picked up three wickets, while Saral Prajapati, Priyajit Jadeja and Japajnya Bhatt claimed one wicket each. Attention will now turn to the third day as Goa look to extend their first-innings lead.
