Margao: Margao Cricket Club beat SWC Zaino by 23 runs in the first quarter-finals of 3rd Chandrakant Karapurkar Trophy T20 tournament at MCC ground here on Wednesday night.
Vedant Naik (51 runs) and Samit Aryan Mishra (4/24) were the key performers with the bat and ball for MCC, who became the first team to enter the semi-finals.
In the floodlit match, MCC elected to bat first and posted a decent total of 158/7. Aditya Suryawanshi (37) and Vedant, who struck 3 boundaries and 3 sixes in his quickfire 30-ball knock, took the attack to the opposition with their positive approach. However, the MCC innings could not sustain the initial charge through to the end as wickets went down regularly with Vinod Wilson (3/24) being the wrecker in chief for Zaino.
MCC’s Samit sent Zaino openers back in the first over itself as the chase got off to a disastrous start for the team from Velim. Jay Dadmode (37), Rohit Patekar (27) and Rajdeep Faterpekar (22) were the main run-getters for Zaino, who were all out for 135 in 19.3 overs. Apart from Samit’s four-wicket haul, MCC’s other bowlers among wickets were Sazu Naik (3/12) and Somesh Prabhudessai (2/31).
