3rd Chandrakant Karapurkar Trophy: Dempo Cricket Club & Goa Sports Academy cruise to victory

Margao: Dempo Cricket Club and Goa Sports Academy scored commanding victory in their respective matches of the 3rd Chandrakant Karapurkar Trophy T20 Tournament organised by Sportsweek Cricket Club, Margao.

Goa Sports Academy beat Maruti Sports Club by six wickets while Dempo CC thrashed Curchorem Cricket Club by 153 runs at SK Ground, Malkarnem.

Dempo’s Yogesh Kauthankar (55 not out off 39 balls & 3 wickets) was named Player of the match. Over in the other match, GSA’s Yash Anand (42 not out of 19 balls & 2/24) was adjudged Player of the match.

Batting first, Maruti SC posted a fighting total of 144/8 with Shaheen Surlakar (59 off 36 balls) being the aggressor around which the innings gained its spine as the second wicket partnership with Saish Hegde (16) raised 58 runs. Manish Yadav scored 23 runs. GSA bowlers – Snehith Panicker (3/27), Yash Anand (2/24) and Saksham Kerkar (2/24) put in a good effort.

In reply, GSA managed to stitch partnerships in short spells with Yash Anand going on to finish the job with his entertaining unbeaten knock that contained four boundaries and 3 sixes. His unfinished 5th wicket stand with Rounak Pednekar (24) was worth 49 runs as GSA romped to 148/4 in 16 overs. Narayan Gawas contributed 38 runs at the top of the order. Apart from Smit Dalvi (2/29), there was not much joy for Maruti SC bowlers.

In the other match, Dempo Cricket Club proved too good for Curchorem CC as their formidable total of 198/6 got a meek reply of 45 all out in 10.4 overs.

In the woefully one-sided encounter, Dempo opener Ninad Pawaskar top-scored with 67 runs off 39 balls, which included 7 boundaries and 4 sixes. Yogesh Kauthankar struck five boundaries and 2 sixes in his half century knock, while Rajshekhar Harikant delivered a 13-ball 29 runs cameo. Mukunda K and Rahul Revankar picked up 2 wickets each for Curchorem CC.

Dempo bowlers Craig Dourado and Avinash Gawas claimed 3 wickets each to destroy the top and middle order of Curchorem. Yogesh Kauthankar then capped a fine allround performance picking up three wickets off his four deliveries to wipe out the tail-end.
