Porvorim: Shikha Pandey-led Venture XI emerged the champions of the second Goa Women’s Premier League hosted by Goa Cricket Association at its academy ground here. In the final on Friday night, Venture XI beat Salgaocar Cricket Club by 7 wickets.
In a one-sided title clash, Salgaocar CC were restricted to a paltry 60/7 which the Venture XI girls overhauled in just 9 overs, losing only 3 wickets.
Sejal Naik picked up 4/9 to wreck the Salgaocar inning with a Player of the Match display. Venture XI’s Mitali Gawander (22) and Shreya Parab (20) then ensured the team’s triumph. Salgaocar captain Poorva Bhaidkar took 2/23.
Salgaocar’s Purvaja Verlekar, who scored 14 runs tonight, was the top run-getter in the 2nd GWPL with 142 runs in 6 innings. Her team-mate Bhaidkar (10) was the leading wicket-taker in the tournament.
