Panaji: United XI Betim and Pilerne Cricket Club progressed in the ongoing Betim United Trophy 2023, with respective victory over Kalapur Cricket Club and Mahamaya Cricketers at Campal ground here on Monday.
Rafig Khazi of United XI Betim played the man of the match role with his figures of 4/25 wrecking the Kalapur CC inning, which folded up for 127 runs in 17 overs. Jayant Mudras stood tall amidst the ruins for Kalapur with his superb 61 runs knock off 40 balls, which was studded with eight boundaries and one sixer.
In reply, United XI Betim chased down the target with two wickets in hand and just one ball to go in a hard-fought match. Ravi Sahani (40 off 25 balls; 7×4, 1×6) and Sarvesh Veluskar (32 off 36; 4×4) played the key role with the bat as United XI Betim reached 128/8 in 19.5 overs. Kalapur CC’s Ravikumar Tarasing and Vinay Palekar took three and two wickets respectively.
In the other match, Pilerne CC defeated Mahamaya Cricketers by 64 runs. Batting first, Pilerne CC were all out for 133 runs in 19.5 overs. Abhijeet Govenkar (33) and Somesh Makani (29) made notable contributions to their total.
Mahamaya Cricketers were then shot out for 69 runs in 14.2 overs. Pilerne’s Vipul Nagvekar picked 4/12 off his four overs and was adjudged man of the match. Udit Yadav (3/19) was the other most successful bowler.
