Margao: The King’s School scored an emphatic six-wicket victory over St Joseph Institute in the South zone final of Goa Cricket Association’s under-16 boys Dilip Sardesai Trophy, at MCC ground here on Friday.
The highlight of the match was a terrific bowling display by Jai Kanguri, who claimed the first hat-trick of the tournament, as the talented leg-spinner bagged a whopping seven wickets giving away 35 runs off his nine overs. In the face of Jai’s wicket-taking spree, St Joseph Institute were all out for 197 runs in 44.5 overs after electing to bat first. Venkat Chigurupati and Rudraksh Manchanda took two and one wicket respectively for The King’s School.
Dwij Palyekar was once again the highest run-getter for St Joseph Institute with 78 runs coming off his bat in 112 balls, which included six boundaries. Sujay Parmekar scored 30 runs while Prathamesh Kadam contributed 18 runs.
In reply, The King’s School cruised to victory, reaching 198/4 in 33.3 overs. Aaradhya Goyal top-scored with 82 off 95 balls while Shamik Kamat scored 49 runs off 43 balls. Aaradhya struck nine boundaries while Shamik’s inning consisted seven hits to the fence. After a stunning seven-wicket haul, Jai Kanguri scored 15 runs with the bat to help his team win in a dominant fashion.
St Joseph Institute’s Sarthak Shetgaonkar took two wickets while Sarthak Toraskar and Shivraj Lakundi picked up one wicket each.
