Porvorim: Tarvalem Cricket Club made heavy weather of a modest chase but importantly got there in the end with four wickets in hand, in the GCA ‘B Division’ 2023 final against the fighting Young Stars of Moula at GCA academy ground here on Monday.
In another low-scoring final, Young Stars of Moula could only manage to put up a total of 121 runs in 29.2 overs as Tarvalem Cricket Club bowlers held the upper hand on the proceedings. Ajinkya Chari (31), Swayam Naik (24) and Suraj Gond (18) entered double figures for Young Stars of Moula.
Tarvalem Cricket Club’s Yogesh Sawant with 4/20 and Somesh Prabhudesai with 3/13, were the main wicket-takers. Yash Tunge took two wickets while skipper Sandesh Prabhudesai picked up one wicket.
In reply, Tarvalem kept losing wickets regularly but notable contributions by Somesh Prabhudesai (30), Raghvir (27), Siddesh Naik (25), Utkarsh Raut (13 not out) and Ashay Korde (10 not out) helped their side reach 123/6 in 26.4 overs and win the B Division state final.
Moula’s Sarthak Walke capped a fine season personally with another good show with the ball, picking up 4/25 off his eight overs. Captain Sanjay Naik and Suraj Gond took one wicket each.
