Suyash Prabhudesai & Deepraj Gaonkar drive Goa’s successful chase against Railways

Half-centuries by Suyash Prabhudesai and Deepraj Gaonkar powered Goa to an exciting two-wicket victory over Railways in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament in progress in Ranchi.

Chasing a huge target of 200, Goa tasted victory with three balls to spare with middle-order batter Suyash top-scoring with 58 runs off 41 balls (3×4, 4×6). Coming to bat at No 9, Deepraj made a crucial contribution of 51 runs off just 22 balls. The all-rounder struck three boundaries and five sixers in his stunning unbeaten knock to add the much needed urgency and propel Goa to the victory mark.

Suyash was involved in an important 47-run partnership for the third wicket with Siddharth KV (25) before putting on 30 runs for the fourth wicket with captain Darshan Misal (19). There after, Goa were in danger of losing their way as wickets fell in a heap. Deepraj came out all guns blazing and his unfinished 58-run stand off 27 balls for the ninth wicket with Mohit Redkar (7 not out), provided fresh impetus for Goa to chase down the challenging target.

Earlier, Goa won the toss and chose to field first. Lakshay Garg (3/33), Arjun Tendulkar (2/50), Darshan Misal (1/33) and Shubham Tari (1/36) were amongst wickets for Goa.

Goa are tied on points with Punjab, who have a better net run-rate and as such top Group C. Both teams have 16 points each from four wins and one loss, having played five matches apiece. Saurashtra are in third position with 12 points to their name.
