Ranji Trophy 2025-26: Goa register innings victory over Chandigarh in season opener

Porvorim: Goa scored a dominant innings and 75 run-victory over Chandigarh in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group B 2025-26 season-opener at GCA Academy ground here today. With this big win, Goa bagged 7 points including a bonus point and will be looking to build momentum in the season with their next match being away to Karnataka from 25th October.

Lalit Yadav, who made his Goa debut, was named Player of the Match for his all-round contribution (213 runs & 4 wickets).

Apart from Lalit, Goa’s Abhinav Tejrana enjoyed a record First Class debut with 205 runs to become first player from the state to score a double century on debut.

Left-arm spinner Darshan Misal grabbed a fifer (5/124) in the second innings to speed up Goa’s charge for a win after their promotion to the Elite Group. The former Goa skipper had picked 3 wickets in the first innings.

Amongst the bright spots for the visitors, young Arjun Azad recorded a fine century in the second innings as Chandigarh put up more resistance than in their first innings. The 24-year-old right-hander played sweet strokes with 16 of them finding the fence and one being a sixer in debutant’s entertaining knock of 141 runs. AK Kaushik played a supporting role with 82 runs off his bat.
