Ranji Trophy 2025-26: Goa batters fail to make big impression on opening day against Madhya Pradesh

Porvorim: Goa were 256/8 at the end of the opening day’s play against Madhya Pradesh in their Ranji Trophy Elite Group B match at GCA Academy ground, here on Saturday.

Having elected to bat first, the group leaders saw most of their top-order batters get their eye in before losing their wickets in the face of a disciplined bowling attack spearheaded by off-spinner Saransh Jain (4/72).

Suyash Prabhudessai was the top scorer on the day with a knock of 65 runs off 119 balls, which included some lovely straight drives in a total of 7 boundaries. Darshan Misal (44), captain Snehal Kauthankar (41) and Lalit Yadav (41) had done all the hardwork before their innings came to an end. Two sizeable partnerships were at the core of Goa’s innings with Suyash-Snehal duo putting on 87 runs for the 3rd wicket, before Darshan and Lalit combined to raise a stand of 73 runs for the 5th wicket.

Deepraj Gaonkar is at the crease with 30 runs to his name. The day’s play ended at the fall of 8th wicket with 84.5 overs bowled on the day.
