ARLEM: DNS / VMJ’s Rookies team of Vinod Joshi and Dattaprasad Silimkhan edged past Mapusa Dream Crushers of Rajesh Colvalcar by 5 wickets and 2 balls to spare in a nail biting encounter; while in the second match, Desserts n’ More Avengers of Dr. Sagar Salgaocar sailed into the semifinals by putting it across Commonwealth Fountainheads of Chirag Naik and Vishwesh Caro by 3 wickets and 8 balls to spare, on the 14th day at Arlem Ground.
Electing to bat first, Mapusa Dream Crushers put on an imposing 188/5 in 20 overs, thanks to their skipper Vipul Deshprabhu who made a quickfire 35 in 20 balls with 5 x 4s with assistance from Sarvesh Kamat’s 29, Pankaj Naik’s 28 and Paarth Kossambe’s 22. Sahil Neurenkar with 2-27 was the pick of the bowlers. Sukrut Pai with 2-33 and Pratham Kossambe with 1-11 also helped the Rookies.
In reply, the DNS / VMJ’s Rookies started their innings in blazing fashion with Shivam Varik making 34 in 26 balls with 5 x 4s and 1 x 6s.
Vibhav Pai’s 23 and Pratham Kossambe’s 32 helped the Rookies while Rupesh Kossambe’s 34 no and Bhushan Kamat Bambolkar with 24 no finished the proceedings with an unbeaten 48 run partnership in 37 balls to take the Rookies home to 189-5 in 19.4 overs. Durgesh Prabhugaonkar with 2-18, Mahesh Churi with 2-19 and Vipul Deshprabhu with 1-22 were the successful bowlers
The Rookies chances of making it to the semifinals now depends upon the outcomes of other team’s matches while Mapusa Dream Crushers crashed out. The following individual prizes were awarded: Sukrut Pai won Drogaria Colvalcar Man-of-the Match award, Vipul Deshprabhu collected Priority Constructions Best Batter award and Durgesh Prabhugaonkar picked Wakao Best Bowler award.
Match 2: Desserts n’More Avengers vs Commonwealth Fountainheads
Put in to bat first, Commonwealth Fountainheads put up a mammoth 170-4 in 20 overs, thanks to Aditya Prabhugaonkar’s 38 no in 29 balls, 3 x 4s, Amod Borkar’s 35 in 25 balls, 6 x 4s and Saish Hegde’s 35 no in 28 balls, 1 x 4s, 1 x 6s. .
Dr. Sagar Salgaocar with 2-18 was the pick of the bowlers and received support from Siddhesh Prabhu Alvencar and Nimay Kamat who picked a wicket each.
In reply, Desserts n More Avengers lost an early wicket of Sanat Prabhudesai (9) but were steadied with a 58 run partnership in 39 balls between Sachin Bhandare 35 in 22 balls with 5 x 4s and Sarin Pai Kane who made 24. Akhil Nadkarni’s 26 in 11 balls with 2 x 4s and 2 x 6s sealed the match for the Desserts n More Avengers as they reached the target making 171-7 in 18.4 overs. Pratap Prabhugaonkar with 2-12 tried his best while Saish Hegde, Prabhakar Shetye, Aditya Prabhugaonkar and Amod Borkar picked a wicket apiece.
Desserts n More Avengers cruised into the semifinals with their 5th win while Commonwealth Fountainheads chances of making it to the semifinals will depend upon the result of the match between Priority Titans and MLT Cricket Club, to be played on Sunday.
