PANAJI: M.E.S. Vasant Joshi College, Zuarinagar, topped the Goa University Inter-Collegiate Women’s Championship. They beat Dnyanprassarak Mandal’s College and Research Centre, Assagao, by 8 wickets in the final on 5th April.
DM’S College won the toss and elected to bat first, posting a total of 140/4 in the alloted 20 overs. The top performers with the bat were Tanaya Naik, who scored 98 runs off 76 balls, and Pallavi, who contributed 17 runs from 20 balls. On the bowling front, Pooja Yadav of M.E.S claimed 2 wickets for 19 runs.
M.E.S reached the winning total of 141 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in 19.2 overs. Harshada Kadam was the top scorer with 56 runs off 59 balls, while Aradhana Saroj contributed significantly with 47 runs from 43 balls. DM’S College bowler Tanaya Naik and Sanika Dhuri took 1 wicket each.
The best performer of the match was Harshada Kadam; best player of the championship was also awarded to Harshada for being the most valuable player of the tournament.
The valedictory ceremony was honoured by the presence of Dr. Kotagiri Srinivas Rao, Associate Professor in V.M. Salgaocar College of Law. The event also featured Guest of Honor Dr. Sushant Haldankar, College Director of Physical Education and sports, DM’S College, Assagao and Dr. Savio Fernandes, College Director of Physical Education and sports, M.E.S. College, Zuarinagar, along with Balachandra B. Jadar, Assistant Director of Physical Education and Sports at Goa University. Together, they presented medals and trophies to the finalists.
