MCC Estilo Legends outplayed Manas Panjim Gymkhana in a six-wicket victory in the Goa Women’s Premier League T20 tournament at GCA Academy ground, Porvorim on Sunday.
In low-scoring match, Manas Panjim Gymkhana could only manage to post 94/9 in the allotted 20 overs. MCC Estilo Legends ensured that there were no hiccups in the chase as they made slow and steady progress to reach 96/4 in 18 overs and started their GWPL campaign with a win.
Manas Panjim Gymkhana thus slumped to their second successive defeat in the GWPL following their opening night’s loss to Celeste Superwomen.
MCC Estilo Legends spearheaded by Tanvir Shaikh (4/16) and Siddhi Savase (2/7) put a tight leash around the Manas PG batters, who just couldn’t break the stranglehold and perished in the process. Opener Resha Korgaonkar was their top scorer with 28 runs off 41 balls, which included four boundaries. Tejal Hasabnis also struck four boundaries in her 21-run knock of 19 balls. Poonam Khemnar (10) was the only other batter to reach double digits.
MCC Estilo Legends led by experienced Goan all-rounder Sunanda Yetrekar, who top-scored with 20 runs, just had to do the basics right without taking any risks. And they did just that as contributions from the likes of Gautami Naik (19), Tanvir Shaikh (12 not out), Shreya Parab (11) and Divya Naik (11 not out) saw the team home.
Manas Panjim Gymkhana’s Poonam Khemnar picked two wickets while Mukta Magre and Sejal Satardekar took a wicket each.
Tanvir Shaikh was adjudged the player of the match and the prize was presented by Alka Subhash Phaldessai.
