PORVORIM: Manas Panjim Gymkhana continued their winning streak in theq Goa Women’s Premier League with a 41-run victory over Venture XI, who became the first team to suffer their third successive loss in the T20 tournament at GCA academy ground, Porvorim on Wednesday.
Put into bat, Manas Panjim Gymkhana posted a huge total of 187/6 in the allotted 20 overs. Chasing the asking rate of over nine runs per over from the go, Venture XI managed 146/9 and stay rooted to the bottom of the five-team table without any point.
Manas Panjim Gymkhana opener Mukta Magre, who was named the player of the match, put up a show in her 51-ball 78, a knock that was studded with eight fours and four sixes. Along with an equally stunning batter Tejal Hasabnis (66 off 40 balls; 6×4, 4×6), the duo put on 122 runs for the second wicket. Captain Shikha Pandey struck two sixes in her seven-ball 15 as Manas Panjim Gymkhana set the platform for their second consecutive win.
Venture XI captain Tarannum Pathan, first grabbed three wickets, and later put on a power-packed show with the bat. She fought a lone battle against the MPG bowlers Mukta Magre (3/15), Shikha Pandey (2/23) and Poonam Khemnar (2/39). Tarannum was brave and that showed in her shot-making on her way to 85 off 48 balls, which included seven fours and six sixes. Rahila Firdous scored 17 runs at the top of the order. Other than them, no other batter could get into double digits.
