Porvorim: Dempo Cricket Club beat Manas Panjim Gymkhana by 73 runs, but Chowgule Sports Club took first innings lead against Priority Constructions MCC and booked the remaining spot in the GCA’s Goa Premier League final.
After getting a nominal 13-run lead, Dempo scored 208 in their second innings and then bowled out Manas Panjim Gymkhana for 148 runs on the second day of the match at GCA Academy ground, Porvorim on Thursday. Ninad Rathwa (5/47) was the standout bowler while Samar Dubhashi (68) was the top contributor with the bat for Dempo in the second innings. It was also the second consecutive day where 20 wickets went down on the rank-turner.
Despite the victory, Dempo (16) finished outside the top-2 as Chowgule SC (15) are poised to finish second behind the leaders Manas Panjim Gymkhana (19), following their first-innings lead over Priority Constructions MCC, and pocketting 3 points for it. Moreover, Chowgule can also go on to win the match on the final day on Friday as MCC are only 13 runs in front with five wickets in hand at the end of second day’s play at MCC ground, Margao.
On the other hand, if MCC produce a miraculous fightback and bowl out Chowgule – all in day’s play, Dempo CC will advance to the title clash.
In the ongoing third match, Salgaocar Cricket Club declared their first innings at a massive 547/9. Desserts N’More Geno SC were 141/5 at Stumps at Panjim Gymkhana ground.
