GOA CRICKET ASSOCIATION HOSTS ‘YASHOGATHA’ TO CELEBRATE PROGRESS, BUT INTERNATIONAL CRICKET STADIUM REMAINS A DREAM YET TO COME TRUE

Marcel: Goa Cricket Association recently hosted Yashogatha 2025 to celebrate the efforts from past and the present administrators, match officials, and clubs; State, Club & School cricketers; and its office staff; in a grand ceremony at Marcel.

The occasion was marked by presentation of Lifetime Achievement Award to Prashant Joshi, former BCCI Vice-President and ex-President of GCA. He praised the GCA for putting together sizeable infrastructure and advised Association to look into creating Indoor academies across the state so that training can continue even in the rainy season.

Trophies, cash prizes and grants were presented to various clubs and players – right from Under-14 to Ranji Trophy level; as ‘Yashogatha 2025’ served as first of its kind platform to pat the back of one and all connected with GCA.

GCA President Vipul Phadke, who is set for a cooling period with his tenure ending later this year when the GCA elections are scheduled, expressed satisfaction at various MoUs forged and new grounds made available across Goa in this term. He emphasised that building the international cricket stadium is a dream and wished success to the new committee to ensure the project becomes a reality.

It may be recollected that the stadium issue has been lingering on for more than a decade. While it was thought that the GCA will make a breakthrough soon on the location of the stadium – either at Dhargal or at Bicholim-, the issue seems to be still in a tangle and no assurance has been forthcoming as yet.

Goa last hosted an international cricket match in 2007.
