Margao: Dempo Cricket Club outplayed MRF by 57 runs and entered the quarter-finals of the 3rd Late Chandrakant Karapurkar Trophy at SAG ground, Fatorda today.
Electing to bat first, Dempo were in early trouble before Avishakar Mone (35) and Yogesh Kauthankar (25) steadied their innings. Rajshekhar Harikant and Robin D’Souza then contributed unbeaten 33 and 19 respectively, to take Dempo total to a healthy 160 for 6 in 20 overs. MRF’s Shubham Gawde took 2 wickets.
Dempo spinners Ramnath Gaonkar (4/8) and Sahdev Kandolkar (3/13) then ran through the MRF lineup, reducing them to a humiliating 62 for 9. The last pair, however, took the total beyond the three-figure mark as MRF were all out for 103 in 17.5 overs.
Meanwhile, the quarter-final matches will be played under floodlights at Dr Rajendra Prasad ground from 2nd April.
