Shiroda: Port Town Boys-Vasco scored an emphatic 40-run victory over Boom Boom Boys-Keri in the final of Nayal Cup 2023 T20 cricket tournament organised by Nayal Borim Cricket Club and VP Shiroda.
Put into bat, Port Town Boys rode on a fine half-century by Darshan Mahendra, who scored 55 runs coming in to open the innings. He combined with Maruti Huggi (29) to bring in the highest partnership of their innings that of 51 runs for the fourth wicket, in 32 balls to build the required momentum in the title clash.
Kushal Vidya (24), Sayed Badi (18) and Kutbuddin Jamadar (16) contributed handy runs to propel the Vasco-based outfit to a challenging total of 166/7 in the allotted 20 overs.
Vishal Gaude (2/27), Prasad Satarkar (2/34) and Navnath Naik (1/42) were amongst the wickets for Boom Boom Boys.
In reply, Boom Boom Boys were all out for 126 runs in 16.5 overs. The team from Keri, lost wickets at regular intervals and their challenge fizzled out once they lost Dipak Gaude, their top-scorer with 39 runs, as Boom Boom Boys were reduced to 94/5 in 12.5 overs. Pravin Gurav scored 26 runs, Navnath Naik made 13 runs and Suresh Pujari contributed 10 runs.
Port Town Boys’ left-arm-spinner Sher Bahadur Yadav took 3/26. Satish Yadav (2/29), Darshan Mahendra (2/30) and Sayed Badi (2/23) also tasted success with the ball.
Port Town Boys bagged Rs 50,000 and trophy while runners-up Boom Boom Boys were presented Rs 30,000 and a trophy. Darshan Mahendra was named man of the final. Following individual prizes were awarded: Man of the tournament: Vishal Gaude, Best batsman: Pravin Gurav, Best bowler: Sher Bahadur Yadav.
Goa Cricket Association secretary Rohan Gauns Dessai was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of other dignitaries.
