Porvorim: Challengers Sports Club inflicted a crushing 172-run defeat on to Shirgao SC in GCA’s ‘A Division’ North zone cricket tournament, at GCA Academy ground here on Friday.
Chasing Challengers SC’s mountain of a total of 308/8 in 40 overs, Shirgao SC replied with 136/9 in 25.5 overs.
Sagar Gaonkar top-scored for Challengers with 84 runs off 44 balls while Atharv Dhumal contributed 68 runs off 82 balls. Shaun Rodrigues made a handy contribution of 39 off 33 balls.
Shirgao SC bowlers Bhanudas Kulal (3/46) was the chief wicket-taker while Apali Kalagutkar, Sarvanan, captain Anand Bhaimkar, Sagar Sawant and Siddesh Sawant claimed one wicket each.
Shirgao SC lost wickets at regular intervals and failed to get into the run-chase to make a contest out of it. Bhanudas Kulal scored 41 runs. Other batters to enter double digits were – Sagar Sawant (23), Apali Kalagutkar (18) and Samruddha Patil (16).
Ravi Barve (3/31), Arun Wagji (2/23), and captain Bhagwant Lanjekar (2/11) bowled well for Challengers.
