Goa registered a five-wicket victory over Himachal Pradesh in the seventh Rama Atre Women’s T20 Cricket Tournament league match at the DAV Sector 8 Ground in Chandigarh.
A brilliant bowling performance by Shikha Pandey, coupled with valuable contributions from the batters, helped Goa chase down the target of 128 runs in 19.5 overs, losing five wickets.
Himachal Pradesh, batting first, were bowled out for 127 in 19.5 overs. Devanshi Verma top-scored with an 81 off 63 balls, hitting 14 fours and two sixes. However, Goa’s bowlers restricted the other batters from making significant contributions. Shikha Pandey claimed four wickets for 20 runs, and Mitali Gawander took three for 21.
In reply, Goa scored 129 for five in 19.5 overs to secure victory. Shreya Parab scored 37 off 40 balls, while Shikha Pandey remained unbeaten on 28 off 19 balls, including four fours. Captain Poorva Bhaidkar contributed 19 off 25 balls, while Sunanda Yetrekar remained unbeaten on 12 off seven balls to seal the win.
Shikha Pandey’s all-round performance played a crucial role in Goa’s victory. Goa needed nine runs in the final over. Shikha took a single off the first ball, followed by a dot ball. Sunanda struck a four off the third delivery and took a single off the fourth. Shikha then smashed a boundary over deep backward point off the fifth ball to seal a thrilling victory for Goa.
